I used to think Will didn't like books. Recently I have discovered that I had been giving him the wrong books. I went to the library with the kids and what did he go right to? The truck books! He opened the book and started making all these boy sounds, smashing the book and zooming the book around like it had actually transformed into a truck or something. There is no doubt in my mind that when he lays his head down to slumber he dreams of fighting off dinosaurs, gobbling down masses of food, and driving trucks over mountains of mud that have never been conquered before. His idea of fun is picking up the heaviest thing he can find and attempting to lift in onto something else, or to pull heavy items around the house- all sure signs to himself of his masculinity. The difference between him and Lucy is startling. While Will is making noises at his book and lifting weights, Lucy is off preparing for a pink tea party, of course wearing pink, and making sure that everyone who enters is wearing pink as well. And yes, don't forget, for "Christmas she wants a pink pumpkin." And she informed our neighbor that when she starts school she will go to a pink school. Come dinner time Lucy always makes sure that everybody has their napkin (gooey fingers are gross), and she always wants the pink cup. She's always wanting to go "shopping", prepare parties, and prepare food for the guests who are coming for the birthday party. Meanwhile Will is sitting on the floor watching Lucy go to and fro and disappointed when he realizes that the food she has been talking about isn't in fact real. That's my girley girl and my boyey boy.
